Philosophy

Technique

Technique is the foundation to any skill. During this time, we will be building your tool-belt so that you can learn how to play the cello efficiently and safely. 

Things you will learn: 

- Basic Music Theory

- Basic Setup

- Left hand technique (Shifting, Thumb position) 

- Bow technique (Bow Hold, Bow Control, String Crossings)

- Vibrato

- Sight-Reading strategies

- Tension-free playing to avoid future injuries

Freedom

Freedom is a result of mastering the technique. During this time, you will learn how to leverage our technique and develop your own unique style of playing.

Things you will learn: 

- How to develop Musicality

- How to play with intent

- How to develop a natural sound

- Storybuilding

Creative Growth

Creative Growth is what comes after we master the technique and can sound how we imagined. During this time, you will learn how to leverage your passions and draw more inspiration to keep improving throughout your musical career.

Things you will learn: 

- Practice strategies

- Self-Evaluation training

- Drawing inspiration

- How to leverage technology to learn faster 

  • Where will lessons be held?
    Lessons will be held at my home; I am located in Lawrenceville/Suwanee area. Google Collins Hill High School as a point of reference, I don't live far from there. A travel fee will be charged if I travel to you.
  • When are you available for lessons?
    I'm generally available weekend mornings or weekday nights. I'll try my best to accommodate my schedule accordingly; we can discuss further in private.
  • What do I need to get started?
    You will need: - Cello - Cello Bow - Rosin - Sheet Music For instruments and bows, please visit a dedicated string shop when possible. (Not general music stores or Amazon, Ebay, etc.)
  • Do you offer online lessons?
    Not at this time.
  • How do I find the best cello teacher for me?
    1. Think about your goals with cello and reach out to as many teachers that appeal to you. - Do your schedules align? - How do they carry themselves? - Are they capable of helping you reach your goals? (Past achievements, playing recordings, etc.) 2. Ask for a trial lesson with them. These are just one-off lessons so you can get a feel for each other. This way, there are no hard feelings if you decide to learn from someone else. - What is their teaching philosophy? - How well do they explain things? - Do they sound good? 3. By now, you should have a good feeling which cello teacher is the best fit for you. Goodluck and happy learning! 😊
  • How much are lessons?
    Cello lessons are currently $60/hr. Price = Lessons + Travel Fee (if any)
  • How do I pay?
    Venmo, Paypal, Cashapp, Check, Cash, Zelle; whichever is most convenient for you. Electronic Payment is preferred.
